Round One Results

Stanford, Calif.--My Leander shot a three-over 74 to tie for 25th individually, and the San José State women's golf team finds themselves 17th in the team standings after shooting a 304 in the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice at the par-71 Stanford Golf Course Sunday afternoon.

Leander started her round with eight consecutive pars on holes 10-17 before a double bogey on #18 found her at two-over par for nine holes. She then made five more pars on holes 1-5 before a bogey on #6, a birdie on #7 and two pars rounded out her score of 74.

Freshman Cristina Glebova made her Spartan debut with a four-over 75 in the first round and is tied for 42nd. She started the day with three consecutive pars and went to one-under par with a birdie on par-4 #13. Holes 15, 16 and 17 found her going double bogey, bogey, bogey to fall to +3.

After making the turn at three-over par, Glebova rebounded on the front nine with birdies on #3, #4 and #7 and just a bogey on #6 to drop to one-over par. Unfortunately, a triple bogey on her final hole, the par-four #9, found Glebova carding a 75.

Elizabeth Schultz started her round at one-over par through the first nine holes with two birdies made. But over her final nine holes, she made five bogeys to finish at six-over 77 and is tied for 64th.

Regan De Guzman shot a 78 in the first round and is tied for 75th. She made 12 pars during round but did not card a birdie. Fanny Johansson rounded out the Spartan scoring with an 82 and is tied for 83rd.

Despite being 17th in the team standings at 304, the Spartans are within 10 shots of sixth place. Host Stanford leads the tournament at 287, while UCLA and Washington are tied for second at 289.

"This was a tough afternoon for us," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "The wind started to kick up after nine holes, and the course was set up in championship conditions. We definitely need to putt better and eliminate the big numbers."

The Spartans start the second round on Monday with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. off of #10. Leander is in the final group that begins at 10:36 a.m. Admission to the event is free.
