Women's Swimming Ready To Start Season

Oct. 20, 2015

The San José State Spartans women's swim team will make their first appearance at the University of the Pacific Invitational this weekend in Stockton, Calif., to begin the season.

"We are very excited to get the season started and get racing," said Head Coach Sage Hopkins. "The team has been training hard. All of us are ready to go."

The 24th annual two-day invitational meet starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, October, 24, and will continue all Saturday, October 24, at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex.

"There are going to be some strong teams there," Hopkins said.

The Spartans will be competing against the Pacific Tigers, No. 9-ranked California Bears, BYU Cougars, Fresno State Bulldogs, Nevada Wolf Pack and Fresno Pacific Sunbirds.

All 20 swimmers on the Spartans' roster will be suiting up for the invitational. There will be no diving competition at the meet.

"This is a test to see exactly where we are under pressure and it will let us know what is going well and what we need to address before we have the fall championship," Hopkins said.
