Blick And Munger Tied For Sixth At Price's Give `Em Five Invitational; Team Ninth

Oct. 23, 2015

EL PASO, Texas --The San José State men's golf team sits in ninth place out of 14 schools, shooting a two-under 286 after 18 holes at the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational on Friday.

The team finished strong as the starting five all had a birdie or better on the last hole, including an eagle by senior Taylor Bromley.

"We were better on the back nine than on the front nine. I'm hoping we learned from it for tomorrow's round," said Spartans head coach John Kennaday. Collectively, the starting five shot seven strokes better on the back nine on the par-72 Butterfield Trail course.

Sophomore Scott Munger, who is playing as an individual, also recorded a birdie on the par-5, 566-yard 18th hole, as he started off on the ninth hole. Munger finished the day at four-under 68 along with senior Cody Blick.

Blick birdied three of the last five holes and currently is tied for sixth, five behind the leader, Antoine Rozner of Missouri-Kansas City who shared the co-medalist honors with Blick in last year's Price's Give 'Em Five tournament. Blick carded five birdies and one bogey for the day.

Sophomore Matthew Murray also birdied three of the last five holes to finish at even-par 72, tied of 41st.

Bromley and freshman Kevin Velo finished one-over 73 and is tied for 50th.

Sophomore Henrik Sohlberg, making his 2015 season debut struggled with a seven-over 79 but finished the back nine in one-over.

"It was a beautiful day so the scores were low. It wasn't our best day but they hung in there until the very end and I'm proud of them. We'll have a better go at it tomorrow," said Kennaday.

Tournament host, Texas El Paso leads by six-strokes at 15-under 273 ahead of New Mexico State, Kansas and St.Mary's (Calif.).

The second round of the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational will continue on Saturday with 18 holes. The Spartans will tee it off on the tenth hole starting with Sohlberg at 8:00 a.m. MT, Velo at 8:11 a.m., Bromley at 8:22 a.m., Murray at 8:33 a.m. and Blick at 8:44 a.m. Fans can follow all of the round two action with live scoring updates provided by Golfstat (Team Leader Board, Player Leader Board).
