Tyler Ervin Added To Doak Walker Award Watch List

Dallas, Texas----- Based on his outstanding season to date, San Jose State University running back Tyler Ervin is one of five players added to the Doak Walker Award Watch List recognizing the top running back in college football.

Ervin presently ranks second in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) for most rushing yards gained (1,159) and in all-purpose running (219.5 yards/game) and third in rushing yards per game (144.9 yards per game).

The 177-pound senior from Colton, Calif., is the only player this season with two games of 250 or more rushing yards. He gained a career best 300 yards on 42 carries and scored three touchdowns in the September 26 win over Fresno State. On October 24, Ervin had 36 carries for 263 yards and a touchdown in a 31-21 win over New Mexico.

Ten semifinalists from the 74 on the Watch List will be named on November 18. The Doak Walker Award selection committee will vote for three finalists on November 24. The winner will be announced on the December 10 Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

The award is named after the three-time All-America running back that played his college football at SMU.

For Ervin, the Doak Walker Award list is the second one he is on for the 2015 season. He is listed on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List recognizing the best all-around player in college football.

San Jose State returns to action, Friday, November 6. The Spartans host BYU at 8:30 p.m. (PT) in Spartan Stadium. The CBS Sports Network is providing the television coverage.
