Volleyball Falls 3-0 To New Mexico

San José, Calif.-Hana Tresnáková led the San José State volleyball team in kills, but the Spartans hit a season-low -.009 in a 3-0 loss to New Mexico in a Mountain West match Saturday afternoon at Spartan Gym.

Tresnáková was the only Spartan in double-digit kills with 11. She added five digs in the loss. Giulia Gávio was the next highest hitter with six kills, while Nandyala Gama added five kills.

No Spartan hitter had a .200 or better hitting percentage in the loss. The team had only 29 kills on 106 attempts and 30 errors.

San José State battled with the Lobos in the first set with seven lead changes and 11 tie scores. The Spartans led by as many as three late in the set at 19-16, and led 23-22 before a Lobo kill and two Spartan attack errors gave New Mexico the 25-23 win.

The Spartans again started the second set strong, leading 9-7 on a Tyanna Roy kill. At 10-10, New Mexico took control of the set, scoring 10 consecutive points for a 20-10 lead and eventual 25-11 win.

The Lobos took control of the final set by opening with a 9-1 lead. The Spartans got as close as four points at 12-8, but New Mexico scored 10 of the final 11 points for a 25-13 win.

San José State goes back on the road next week for two MW matches. The team plays at Boise State on Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m. MDT, and at Utah State on Saturday, October 10, at 7 p.m.
