Volleyball Comeback Falls Short At Air Force

Colorado Springs, Colo.-After trailing 2-0 at Air Force, the San José State volleyball team rallied to win the third set and had set point in the fourth set but fell to the Falcons, 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 29-27), Saturday afternoon at Falcon Court.

The Spartans had to fight all day during the set. The team fell by identical scores of 25-15 in the first two sets. In the third set, San José State trailed 23-21, but rallied with kills by Nandyala Gama and Giulia Gávio to tie the score at 23-23. The Falcons then had back-to-back hitting errors for the 25-23 Spartan win.

The Spartans had a 24-21 lead in the final set but could not put the Falcons away. San José State took its final lead at 25-24, and could not take the lead back after fighting to tie set three more times. Air Force won the set, 29-27, and the match on two Spartan hitting errors.

Sara Hibbs led the Spartan hitters with 12 kills and hit .296 for the match (12-4-27). She added five block assists and a team-high three aces. Tyanna Roy had 11 kills and three blocks, while Gama recorded 10 kills and had a team-high six block assists.

Allison Meehan recorded her fifth double-double-of the season with 35 assists and 11 digs. Yavianliz Rosado led the Spartans with 15 digs, while Hana Tresnáková added 12 digs and nine kills.

San José State is now 12-13 overall and 4-8 in the MW. The team returns home next week for two matches - Thursday the 5th against Utah State at 6 p.m., and Saturday the 7th versus Boise State at 1 p.m.
