San Jose, Calif. â€" On the eve of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men's Soccer Tournament, San Jose State men's soccer players Rory Knibbs and Jonathan Colunga were named First-Team All-WAC performers. The award is based on a player's performance in the 10-game conference schedule.
For Knibbs, a junior striker from London, England, this marks the third time following a season he has been honored by the conference. In 2013 and 2014 he received second-team recognition and prior to this year was named a preseason All-WAC selection. Colunga earned second-team All-WAC honors in 2014, his first full year playing for San José State.
The leading scorer on the side in each of his three years, this season Knibbs topped the team and ranked in the top-five in four offensive categories. Among WAC performers he is third in goals (11) and points (15), fourth in game winner (4) and fifth in shots (33). In WAC play, he scored seven times, including the game winners against Incarnate Word and Grand Canyon University.
Colunga, a midfielder from Lindsay, Calif., scored all four of his goals in conference play and assisted on three more. In WAC play he ranks sixth in shots (32) and is scond on the team in goals, points (11), shots (42), shots on goal (19) and converted his lone penalty kick attempt.
San José State, the sixth seed, opens play in the 2015 WAC Men's Soccer Tournament on Thursday afternoon against third seed UNLV. Kickoff at Durwood Soccer Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., is set for 2:30 p.m. (PT).
