Fort Collins, Colo.- Giulia Gávio led the San José State volleyball team with 11 kills, but the Spartans fell at #13 Colorado State 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) Thursday night at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colo.
The Spartans hit just .098 for the match but had eight blocks and five service aces. Yavianliz Rosado and Sara Hibbs each had two aces, while Nandyala Gama had a team-best six blocks (2 solo, 4 assists). Rosado also led the team with 15 digs, while Tyanna Roy added 10 digs and nine kills.
After falling 25-14 in the first set, the Spartans played tough with the Rams in set two. Colorado State jumped out to a 7-3 lead, but San José State fought back to tie the set at 11-11 and took a 13-11 lead on a Hana Tresnáková service ace. The two teams traded the lead four times and had eight tie scores before CSU took the final lead at 20-19 and won 25-22. The Rams then won the final set 25-20.
With the win, Colorado State improves to 22-3 overall and 15-0 in the Mountain West. The Rams have clinched at least a share of the conference title.
San José State falls to 13-15 overall and 5-10 in the MW. The team now plays at Wyoming this Saturday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. MST/5:30 p.m. PST.
