San José State controlled the boards 52-to-36. It had a 24-to-8 advantage on the offensive glass and turned that into 21 second-chance points and a 30-point advantage in points in the paint.
After leading by 18 after the first quarter, the Spartans allowed Southern Oregon to hang around in the second and cut the lead to 13 points, 46-33, by the half.
Behind 47 percent shooting in the third quarter, SJSU built its largest lead of the contest, 29 points, 69-40 with 2:24 to go in the period. They looked poised to blow the game open, but allowed the Raiders to close the gap and end the quarter on an 11-to-3 run.
SOU continued to chip away in the fourth quarter. They hit 8-of-16, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and were 6-for-6 from the line. The Raiders got as close as 13 points before finally falling by 14, 92-78.
The Spartans get right back to work on Sunday when they travel to Saint Mary's for a 1:00 p.m. tip in the Gaels' McKeon Pavilion.
