Former Spartan Blake McFarland Added To Blue Jays 40-Man Roster

Nov. 20, 2015

TORONTO – San José State product Blake McFarland has been added to the Toronto Blue Jays’ 40-man roster, the club announced earlier this week. The move protects McFarland from being selected in next month’s Rule 5 Draft.

McFarland, a right-handed relief pitcher, saw action in 38 games with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2015 before being called up to triple-A Buffalo. He posted a 2.03 ERA in 46 total appearances and notched 16 saves, all with New Hampshire. Opponents hit just .200 against him last season he walked only 10 batters in his 57.2 innings on the mound.

For his career, McFarland has played in 179 games in Toronto’s minor league system since signing as a non-drafted free agent in 2011. He owns a 4.14 ERA and has a record of 16-26 in 320.2 innings.

In his two seasons (2010-11) at San José State, McFarland started all 30 games he played in after transferring from Santa Barbara City College. He tossed six complete games and racked up 198.0 innings of work. His 15-6 win-loss record stands as the third-best mark of any pitcher in program history with at least 20 decisions.
