Matijevic Named To MPSF Honorable Mention Team

San José, Calif. --- Averaging 11.71 saves a game, San José State men's water polo sophomore goalkeeper Matej Matijevic was named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Honorable Mention team on Tuesday, November 24.

Tallying 259 saves this season, Matijevic started 27 games for the Spartans and saw a total of 708 minutes of action in the cage. In goal, he helped lead the Spartans to four wins during their inaugural season after 34 years while picking up 11 complete games.

Matijevic had a season high 19 saves in the Spartans' season opener against the Santa Clara Broncos on September 5. Adding to his save total, Matijevic had two 18 save games, first against the California Bears on September 19 and again on November 7 versus the UC Irvine Anteaters.

Named a junior college All-American for the 2014-15 season at Long Beach City College, the sophomore from Zagreb, Croatia is an economics major. Matijevic was a member of the Croatian junior national team prior to playing his freshman season at Long Beach City College.
