San José, Calif.-- Tyanna Roy led all Spartan hitters with 12 kills as San José State fell to Boise State, 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-21) Saturday afternoon in Mountain West match at Spartan Gym.
Facing the second-place team in the conference, San José State (13-14, 5-9) came out and too an early 10-8 lead. The two teams traded the lead four times and had seven tied scores. The Broncos took the lead for good at 20-19 and won the set 25-23.
The second set belonged to Boise State (18-7, 10-3) as the team won 25-13, but San José State rebounded in the third set, taking a 6-1 lead and forcing the Broncos to take a timeout. Boise State then began to chip away at the lead, tying the match at 21-21, and scoring the final four points for the 25-21 win.
Roy led the Spartans with her 12 kills and hit .258 (12-4-31). Giulia Gávio came off the bench in the third set and recorded eight kills and hit .467 (8-1-15). Yavilianliz Rosado led the team with 11 digs, while Julie Sam had a team-best two service aces. Nandyala Gama led the Spartans with three block assists.
Four Broncos recorded double-digit kills in the win, led by Sierra Nobley with 14. Boise State hit .398 and had 51 digs for the match.
The Spartans go back on the road for the next three matches. The team plays at Colorado State on Thursday, November 12, at Wyoming on Saturday, November 14, and at Nevada on Wednesday, November 18. The Spartans play San Diego State in the final home match of the year on Saturday, November 21, at 1 p.m.
