Kansas City, Mo. --- For only the second time in the program's history, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced two San José State women's soccer players as All-Pacific Region Players. Senior goalkeeper Zoe Makrigiannis from Surrey, B.C., Canada garnered second-team honors while sophomore forward Dorthe Hoppius from Dorsten, Germany is a third-team selection."It is terrific to be recognized on a regional and national level," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "These girls earned this recognition and it's great for our team, our program and for those two players."Makrigiannis was First-Team All-Mountain West and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2015. She recorded six shutouts, all during conference play, helping the Spartans to a program-record 8-3-0 mark versus conference opponents.Makrigiannis ended her career as the Spartans' all-time leader in shutouts with 16, and in the top-five for goals-against average (1.20) and saves (223).Hoppius was also a First-Team All-Mountain West selection. She scored five goals in conference play, three of which were game-winners. Her golden-goal in overtime sent the Spartans home with a victory at New Mexico (10/16) and her game-winner versus Nevada punched the Spartans' ticket to the MW Championship Tournament.Makrigiannis and Hoppius ended the season as Mountain West champions after advancing past #1-seeded San Diego State in the title game on penalty kicks. They helped lead the program to the second NCAA Tournament appearance since it's inception in 1995.
It is the first NSCAA All-Region recognition for the Spartans since 2010, when Kelsey Lord and Jessica Ingram were All-West Region honorees.To see the full list of All-West Region honorees, click here.
