Solid Start To The 2015 Season For Women's Track & Field

Nampa, Idaho --- The San José State women's track and field team got off to a solid start to the 2015 indoor season on Saturday at the Jacksons Open in Nampa, Idaho."I'm absolutely pleased and we performed better than I thought we would have for the first meet of the season," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "We were really close with some personal records and this is December."Jade Childs' 8.80 in the 60-meter hurdles prelim was the fastest of all qualifiers, and then she beat that with an 8.76 in the finals. Makayla Webb also qualified and clocked a personal-best 8.79 in the event.Caitlin Wilson narrowly missed her personal-best in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes. She took the top spot in both events, clocking 7.68 in the 60 and 24.45 in the 200.In their Spartan track debuts, freshman jumpers Kolbi Sims, Natalia Gutierrez and Ashley Sidhu all competed in the high jump. Sims and Gutierrez both cleared the bar at 1.60 metersboth cleared the high-jump bar at 1.60 meters.Nicole Iloanya led the way in her specialty event, the triple-jump, with a distance of 12.54 meters. Cambree Harbaugh finished close behind with a mark of 11.63."Nicole performed very well today and I think we have a bright future ahead with our young jumpers," Petersmeyer said. "The group coming back brings experience to the team, which we didn't have last season. I think it's good for us to have that this year."Childs, who redshirted the 2014 indoor season, set a personal record Saturday with a shot put toss of 11.49 meters.The SJSU women's track and field tram is back in action on January 15-16 at the Ed Jacoby Invitational.60-Meter Dash Prelims
