Ladd Scores Career-Best 19 For Women's Basketball

San José, Calif.--Myzhanique Ladd scored a career-high 19 points, but the San José State women's basketball team could not overcome 20 turnovers in a 75-66 loss to New Mexico State Thursday night a in non-conference game at The Event Center.

Ladd was 7-for-9 from the field in her first start this season. She was also 5-of-6 from the free throw line and dished out a team-best four assists in 27 minutes of action.

Dezz Ramos was the Spartans only other double-figure scorer with 19 points. She was 7-for-10 from the field including 5-for-6 from three-point range. She grabbed three rebounds and two assists.

Jasmine Smith and Nyre Harris each grabbed a team-best five rounds. Smith scored nine points on 4-for-9 shooting from the field.

The Spartans turned the ball over 20 times in the game, including on back-to-back inbounds passes in the fourth period as the team was trying to cut the Aggie to single digits.

San José State fell behind 23-13 after the first period, taking only 12 shots and turning the ball over five times. The Spartans battled back in the second period, tying the game at 25-25 with just over six minutes remaining until halftime. However, the team make just one of its final eight shots of the period and trailed 35-27 at halftime.

Ramos got the Spartans within six at 35-29 to start the third period, but New Mexico State used a 7-0 to extend the lead to 42-29 and held a double-digit lead until Ramos hit a layup with 21 seconds remaining to end the game at 75-66.

San José State falls to 1-8 on the season, while New Mexico State improved to 8-2. The Spartans continue at home this Sunday to face UC Irvine at 2 p.m., inside The Event Center.
