San José State has won three in a row for the first time since December of 2013 when the team won four straight … 91 points in the win over UAA was the most for SJSU since defeating UC Santa Cruz 94-54 on November 20, 2012 … SJSU is tied for the MW lead at 17.0 assists per contest … The Spartans have had 20 or more assists in the last four games … Frank Rogers' 32 points versus UAA made him the first Spartan since James Kinney in 2012 to score 30 points in a game … Rogers' 6.4 defensive rebounds per contest are tops in the MW … San José State and Fresno State are tied atop the MW with five double-double performances.


DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLEFrank Rogers notched his third consecutive and fourth overall double-double Wednesday night with 20 points and 10 rebounds versus the University of Antelope Valley. Over the last three games, Rogers is averaging 23.3 points while shooting a blistering 70 percent (28-40) from the floor. He's grabbed 12 rebounds per contest during that stretch and is averaging 9.0 for the season. The 6-foot-9 forward from Salinas, Calif., is one of 26 players nationally with four or more double-doubles this season, and he leads the Mountain West.HOLIDAY HELPERSSan José State has recorded 20 or more assists in four consecutive games. The Spartans lead the Mountain West in assists per game at 17.0 and that mark is good for 39th in the country. Princeton Onwas with 21 and Jalen James with 17 are the assist leaders for SJSU.

MUST STAY AWAY FROM THE TURNOVERSSan José State committed a season-high 25 turnovers in the last outing versus Antelope Valley. Fifteen (15) of those came in the first 20 minutes and the Spartans went into the halftime locker room with just an eight-point lead. The team is averaging 13.4 turnovers per game, so 25 was uncharacteristic. The Spartans averaged 9.6 turnovers in three contests at the Great Alaska Shootout (11/25-28).INSIDE THE CLASH OF THE COUNTYSan José State and Santa Clara first met on the hardwood back in 1909. Since then, some of SJSU's most celebrated victories have come against the Broncos. In 1969, led by Coby Dietrick and Darnell Hillman under head coach Dan Glines, the Spartans defeated #2-Broncos, 73-69. To this day it remains the highest nationally seeded team San José State has ever beaten. People may not remember that earlier that year, Santa Clara had beat San José State 62-49. Recently, Santa Clara has been dominant against the Spartans, taking nine of the last 11 dating back to the 2006-07 season. San José State's last win versus Santa Clara came on December 23, 2009, when Adrian Oliver's scored 23, and Mac Peterson put in 17 points, leading SJSU to a 74-68 victory. Santa Clara controls the all-time series, 75-29.SCOUTING SANTA CLARAThe Broncos head into Saturday's game with a 1-7 record, but fresh off of a 62-45 win in the final game of the Wooden Legacy. Santa Clara is shooting 37 percent from the floor as a team, including 28 percent from downtown. Jared Brownridge is the scoring leader at 18.6 points per game. If you saw the Broncos take on No. 11 Arizona at the Wooden Legacy over Thanksgiving weekend, you saw Brownridge explode for 44 points. He hit all 15 of his free throw attempts in that game, which Santa Clara pushed the Wildcats to the brink, but fell 75-73 in overtime.ROGERS DOMINATES AT GREAT ALASKA SHOOTOUTFrank Rogers was selected to the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team after averaging 22.0 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. In the win over Alaska-Anchorage, Rogers scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the tournament. In three games, the senior shot 65 percent from the floor (26-40) and 63 percent from downtown (7-11). He also only turned the ball over one time while averaging 34.1 minutes per game.
INSIDE ROGERS' 32-POINT GAMERogers finished the game 14 of 18 from the floor in his breakout 32-point game at Alaska-Anchorage. He was 9 of 10 with 23 points in the first half alone. Rogers scored the first two points of the game on a put-back layup and never looked back. He was also lethal on the outside including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. The biggest bucket of the night was his last, a layup which put the Spartans up by six with 1:12 to go.
WELY HITS BIG BUCKETS IN UAA WINAs San José State and Alaska-Anchorage went back-and-forth in the closing minutes, Ryan Welage stepped up and hit what may have been the biggest shots of the young season. A five-point UAA burst that cut SJSU's lead to three was silenced when Welage knocked down a three from the top of the arc at the 2:18 mark. On the Spartans' next possession, Welage cashed another one from the right corner and the Spartans took a six-point lead into the final minute.
HIDDEN KEYS TO VICTORIES AT GREAT ALASKA SHOOTOUTOutside of Rogers' dominance, the Spartans had some big contributions from role players during crunch time. Brandon Clarke had two tip-ins off of missed shots with under seven minutes to play in a back-and-forth game versus UAA. Cody Schwartz, who has struggled with his shot, canned a three-ball to put the Spartans ahead at one point in the second half of that game. Leon Bahner had significant contributions in the win over San Diego, making both of his shots while adding two blocks a steal.I-T KNOWS HIS ROLE AND PLAYS IT WELLIsaac Thornton certainly played his role well at the Great Alaska Shootout, leading SJSU to a season-best 31 points of bench production versus San Diego. Thornton scored 15 of those 31, while handing out four assists. He entered the game midway through the first half, and ended up playing 27 minutes, 17 more than his average at the time. Thornton finished the tournament averaging 8.3 points, handed out 11 assists and had five steals.SCHWARTZ MAKES PRESENCE FELT IN WIN OVER UAACody Schwartz had two go-ahead baskets in the second half of the 91-87 victory over Alaska-Anchorage. One was a turnaround three from the left corner that put SJSU up 60-59 with 11:13 to go. Schwartz put the Spartans ahead by one with 9:15 left when he went flying through the lane for a one-handed tip-in off of a missed shot. He also helped grow the lead to as many as seven by knocking down a pair of free throws with 6:36 remaining.
