Woodland, Calif.----- For leading San Jose State University to a 3-1 win-loss record and scoring her 200th career goal in the season-opening LouStrong Memorial tournament, senior Rae Lekness was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Women's Water Polo Player of the Week.
Lekness scored 16 goals in the Spartans' four matches. The senior from Calgary, Alberta was on the scoreboard five times each in San Jose State's wins over Cal State East Bay, Sonoma State and Cal State Monterey Bay. Lekness also scored once in the loss to defending NCAA champion Stanford to wrap up her opening week's scoring barrage.
The two-time all-conference choice became the fifth player in school history to reach the 200-goal plateau with her fourth score in the Cal State East Bay win. When the weekend was over, Lekness had 212 career goals for a third-place tie with former teammate Timi Molnar.
Adriana Vogt holds the San Jose State career goal-scoring record with 245.
The Spartans head into the second week of the season at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational January 23 & 24. San Jose State faces Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Hawaii, and Michigan.
Stanford's Kat Klass was named the MPSF Newcomer of the Week for her play in the Cardinal's four wins in the LouStrong Memorial tournament.
