Final Stats

USAFA, Colo. --- Early turnovers put the San José State men's basketball team in a hole, and right when it looked like the Spartans were out of it for good, down 21 points with seven minutes to play, a late surge changed everything.Brandon Clarke threw down a dunk, Frank Rogers hit two threes and Princeton Onwas made a couple of layups and hit clutch free throws which were all part of an 18-2 run for San José State. The Spartans got as close as five points, and had a couple of chances to make it a one-possession game, but that would be all, and fell to Air Force, 64-57.Onwas led the Spartans with a 19-point effort off the bench, and Rogers scored all 10 of his points in the second half. Both Rogers and Cody Schwartz had open three-point shots go off the iron with the Spartans trailing by five with under a minute remaining.Eleven (11) first-half turnovers kept the San José State offense out of any sort of rhythm until the late second-half run. San José State (5-9, 0-2 MW) opened the game hitting their first three shots from beyond the arc, and led 9-6 at the first media timeout. But three consecutive turnovers ensued, which began the trend that continued nearly the rest of the game.

Although the Spartans only connected on two of their final 17 attempts in the first half, the deficit was only nine points heading into the break.

A solid defensive effort helped the Spartans stay in the game despite 20 turnovers and poor shooting. SJSU held Air Force to 35 percent shooting, and blocked a season-high eight shots.
Trevor Lyons led the way for Air Force (10-4, 1-0 MW) with 22 points. His 11 of 12 shooting from the line helped the Falcons to 25 of 30 at the foul line for the game. San José State struggled with free throws again, ending 14 of 23.Jaycee Hillsman scored 11 points in his sixth start of the season. Cody Schwartz and Ryan Welage, a couple of San José State's top scorers, took just four shots combined.San José State is back in action on Wednesday night when it will take on San Diego State at 7:00 p.m. PST
