Boise, Idaho --- Ryan Welage scored 19 points, and Brandon Clarke notched his second consecutive double-double, but the San José State men's basketball team fell on the road at Boise State 94-69 in Mountain West play."We didn't have the sense of urgency at the beginning of the game to get out on the three-point line, especially against Nick (Duncan)," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. "He made us pay with those threes. Then, this is a team with veteran players. You can't mentally have back-to-back bad plays against these guys."One game after Boise State was 1-for-17 from three-point land, it was Nick Duncan and his three-ball that gave Boise State an early lead, which would never be relinquished. Duncan hit six shots from beyond the arc in the first half, putting the Spartans in a 17-point hole midway through the period.San José State (6-13, 1-6 MW) cut the lead to six points with a 9-0 run early in the second half. Cody Schwartz's jumper with 16:44 on the clock made it 47-41 Broncos lead.Anthony Drmic hit a layup, Mikey Thompson converted the and-one play and James Webb III laid another one in to wipe out SJSU's run and build the Boise State lead right back to 13 points.Welage led the Spartans in scoring for the fifth time this season, and he continues to lead all Mountain West freshmen in scoring during conference play at 14.9 points per game. Brandon Clarke joined Welage in double figures scoring with 13 while grabbing 11 rebounds, and Jaycee Hillsman finished with 10 points."Brandon Clarke was big-time tonight," Wojcik said. "James (Webb III) is a potential pro for them, and Brandon went up with him on a couple of rebounds and got them. That tells me a lot. One play was unbelievable where he makes a block and then sprints the floor and gets a lob at the other end. All of these freshmen are growing up right in front of us and I'll tell you the future looks bright for us."Webb III and Duncan both finished with 24 points to lead all scorers. Webb III also brought down a career-high 18 rebounds.San José State returns home this weekend to face New Mexico on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. PST on Campus Insiders.
