Jan. 23, 2016

Final Stats

San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State men's basketball team was outscored by 14 points in the second half and fell 83-64 to New Mexico in Mountain West action at The Event Center.

"We just didn't execute for whatever reason," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. "I don't know if we've hit a wall or what. We didn't have that pop, and we didn't have it the other night in Boise either. As a staff we have to figure it out and try to come back and get ready for next Wednesday."
The Spartans shot 38 percent (21-56) from the floor for the game while New Mexico, the most efficient shooting team in the league, shot 55 percent (30-55).

"I thought New Mexico did a good job executing their offense and looking for their guy Brown," Wojcik said. He really hurt us and played a hell of a game. Timmy Williams played well for them too with a double-double. We knew those were the guys we had to stop, we just couldn't get the stops we needed."
Elijah Brown scored 19 of his career-high tying 33 points in the second half to lead the Lobos (11-8, 4-3 MW). It is the second time in the last three games that SJSU has allowed a 30-point scorer. Tim Williams finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year.Frank Rogers scored 16 points to lead San José State (6-14, 1-7 MW). Brandon Clarke joined Rogers in double-figures scoring with 14 points. Both players grabbed eight rebounds.San José State trailed 37-32 at the break, but hot New Mexico shooting coupled with SJSU turnovers and poor free throw shooting allowed the Lobos to pull away. San José State finished 15 of 28 from the line and committed 17 turnovers.

Brown's three-point basket with 3:18 remaining gave UNM its largest lead of 25 points.
