Stanford, Calif.--San José State saved the best for last on Sunday as the Spartan women's gymnastics team recorded the 10th-best bars score in school history in the final rotation of a tri-meet at Stanford with California. The Spartans scored a season-best 194.875 as Stanford won the meet with a 196.675, followed by California at 195.650.
In the final rotation, the bars team recorded a 48.825, the 12th-best score in school history. Kaitlin Won and Alyssa Kaschak each received a season-best 9.800, followed by Marissa Unpingco at 9.775, Allison Bellingham at 9.750, Haleigh Shepard at 9.700 and Maddie Herr at 9.050.
The Spartans stared the meet on beam with a season-best 48.650. Unpingco anchored the beam team with a season-best 9.850 and finished tied for third. Herr and Allison Bellingham each scored a 9.750, followed by Alisa Bogdan and Amy Bellingham at 9.650, and Won at 9.125. San José State was second after the first rotation, with Stanford leading 49.175 and Cal posting a 48.525.
The team moved to floor in the second rotation and scored a 48.700. Bogdan led the team with a season-best 9.775. Herr and Ellie Pascoe-Long each had a 9.750, followed by Erica Matos at 9.725, Haleigh Shepard at 9.700 and Won at 9.625. Stanford led after two rotations with a 98.375, while the Spartans and Golden Bears were tied at 97.350.
The vault team recorded a season-high 48.700 in the third rotation. Matos led the vault team for the second consecutive week with a 9.775. Josalyn Ray scored a 9.750 with her first collegiate vault. Hannah Gilbert, Won, Herr and Pascoe-Long each had a 9.725. Stanford led the two teams by over a point with a 147.625, followed by California at 146.525 and the Spartans at 146.050.
San José State returns home this Friday, January 29, for a quadrangular meet with Texas Woman's, Seattle Pacific and William & Mary. The meet begins at 7 p.m., inside The Event Center.
