Women's Gymnastics Travels Up I-80 To UC Davis

After winning the team's quadrangular home meet last week, the San José State women's gymnastics team travels up Interstate 80 to face Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe UC Davis Friday night for a 7 p.m. meet inside the Pavilion.

The Spartans are coming off wins over Texas Woman's, Seattle Pacific and William & Mary last Friday at The Event Center. The team scored a 192.825 and was led by the vault team who started the meet tying a season-best at 48.700. Erica Matos tied for first on vault with a 9.800, and scored a career-best 9.800 on floor for her first collegiate floor title. Kaitlin Won scored a 38.800 in only her second time doing all-around this season to win the title. She was also second on the beam with a season-high 9.800.

This is the second meeting between the two schools in the first five weeks of the season. The teams competed at the NorCal Classic on January 10 in San Jose. UC Davis scored a 192.700, while the Spartans had a 191.800 at the meet. The two teams will also compete against each other in the final home meet of the year for the Spartans on Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m.

Last week, UC Davis fell at Sacramento State, 194.250-193.100. Senior Stephanie Stamates won the beam title with a 9.875, and tied for first on floor at 9.875.

The Spartans return to The Event Center next Friday, February 12, to host Boise State for a 7 p.m. meet. The meet is designated as the team's annual Pink Meet to raise awareness for breast cancer.
