San Jose, Calif. --- A back-and-forth contest between San José State and San Diego State turned into a lopsided game quickly when the Aztecs went on a 21-4 run midway through the second half, and the Spartans fell 78-56 in Mountain West play.Princeton Onwas hit a layup at the 14:47 mark in the second half to make it 40-38 SDSU lead. From there, SJSU hit just one basket over the next 7:03. Trey Kell hit a three, and Malik Pope threw down a thunderous dunk that helped San Diego State (20-7, 13-1 MW) grow its lead from 10 to 22 in less than three minutes.Pope and Winston Shepard each finished with a game-high 17 points for the Aztecs. Pope also collected 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Kell and Jeremy Hemsley ended with 15 and 13 points respectively.Cody Schwartz nailed four three-point baskets in the first half, which helped erase SDSU's 14-point lead midway through the period. Schwartz connected from deep on back-to-back possessions at one point, slicing the lead from 12 to six.Ivo Basor grabbed an offensive board and dished the ball to Ryan Welage who connected on a three of his own to make it 28-25 with 2:13 remaining in the half. Brandon Clarke's layup on the Spartans' next possession made it a one-point game, which would be the closest SJSU got to overtaking the Aztecs.Schwartz was scoreless in the second half, but finished with a team-high 12 points.
