WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - The San José State men's golf team shot a three-over 291 to finish in 10th place after day two of competition at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate. The Spartans are even-par 576 for the tournament with one more round to play on Saturday.

Freshman Kevin Velo paced the Spartans by posting five-under 67 and is in a 11th place tie at five-under 139. For the second consecutive day, the Danville, Calif., native again took advantage of the four par-5 holes by shooting four-under in them. In the first two days of the tournament, played on the par-72, 7,074-yard Kings' Course, Velo has made an eagle and six birdies on the par-5 holes.

Yesterday's low scorer for the Spartans, Scott Munger, got off to a strong start birdieing the first hole on the 13th off the shotgun start. The sophomore was tied for first, shooting as low as four-under for the day but finished the last 10 holes in six-over par. Munger is now tied for 36th at one-under par 143.

Senior Taylor Bromley came in at one-over 73 with two birdies and three bogeys. Bromley is tied for 46th at one-over 145 for the tournament.

Freshman Bradley Keyer, playing as a non-team scoring individual, posted a round of two-over 74. Coupled with yesterday's round of 73, the Henderson, Nev., native is tied for 72nd overall at three-over 147.

Sophomore Matthew Murray and sophomore Brett Thawley rounded out the scoring for the Spartans shooting 77 and 78, respectively. Both are now six-over 150 for the tournament.

#23-ranked UCLA shot 16-under 272 for the day to take the lead at 25-under 551, two shots ahead of day one leader, #7-Southern California. Seven of the nine teams ahead of San José State are ranked nationally by Golfstat. The Spartans are ahead of two ranked teams, #29-Georgia Tech who sits in 11th place and #1-Auburn who are in 14th place.

Jonathan Garrick and Cole Madey, both of UCLA are atop the leaderboard at nine-under 135.

The final round of the Amer Ari Invitational will continue on Saturday with 18 holes. The teams will tee it off at 7:30 a.m. HST with a shotgun start. Fans can follow all of the final round action with live scoring updates provided by Golfstat (Team Leader Board, Player Leader Board).
