Davis, Calif.--In a meet decided by tenths of a point, the San José State women's gymnastics scored a 194.225, but fell at UC Davis by .150 as the Aggies scored a 194.375 Friday night at The Pavilion.
Two Spartans won individual titles. For the second consecutive week and third time this season, Erica Matos won or tied for first on vault with a 9.825, tying with Alexis Brown of UC Davis. Kaitlin Won took the all-around title with a 38.825.
The Spartans started on bars with a 48.675, led by Heinl's season-best 9.800. Alyssa Kaschak scored a 9.775, followed by Haleigh Shepard's season-high 9.750, Won at 9.700, Allison Bellingham at 9.650 and Marissa Unpingco at 9.625.
San José State then rotated to vault and scored a 48.525. Matos tied for first on vault with a season-best 9.825. Maddie Herr followed with a 9.750, Heinl with a season-best 9.700, Won at 9.675, Josalyn Ray at 9.575 and Hannah Gilbert at 9.500. The Spartans trailed UC Davis after two rotations 97.550-97.200.
On floor for the third rotation, the Spartans took the lead over UC Davis, 145.775-145.500. SJSU scored a 48.575 on floor, led by Herr's season-high 9.800. Matos, Won and Ellie Pascoe-Long scored a 9.750, followed by Shepard at 9.525 and Alisa Bogdan at 9.200.
The final rotation came down to the final performances on beam for San José State and floor for UC Davis. The Spartans scored a 48.450 on beam, led by Herr's season-best 9.775. Won and Bellingham each had a 9.700, while Kendal Watts made her collegiate debut with a 9.650. Bogdan received a 9.625, and Unpingco rounded out the scoring with a 9.525.
San José State returns home next Friday, February 12, to host Boise State at 7 p.m., inside The Event Center. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., and tickets are available at the door.
