San Jose, Calif.-- Six San Jose State women's gymnastics performed in their final home meet Sunday afternoon as the Spartans scored a 194.925 in a tri-meet with UC Davis (195.575) and Brown (194.075) at The Event Center.
Senior Maddie Herr won the vault with a career-best 9.875. Her score ties for the third best in school history, and she is just one of four Spartans to record a 9.875. Herr finished second in the all-around with a 39.100 which included a 9.725 on bars, a 9.650 on beam and a season-best 9.850 on floor.
Other seniors competing in their final home meet include Hannah Gilbert on vault (9.775), Marissa Unpingco on bars (9.600) and beam (9.825), Alyssa Kaschak on bars (9.750) and beam (9.500), Allison Bellingham on beam (9.625) and bars (8.900) and Amy Bellingham on beam (8.850).
The Spartans started the meet with a season-best 48.950 on vault, tying for the sixth-best score in school history. Herr led the team with a 9.875, followed by Rachel Heinl with a season-high 9.800, Gilbert and Erica Matos at 9.775, Kendal Watts at 9.725, and Josalyn Ray at 9.650.
The bars team followed next with a 48.625. Heinl won the event with a season-best 9.800. Kaschak and Haleigh Shepard followed at 9.750, then Herr at 9.725, Unpingco at 9.600, and Allison Bellingham at 8.900.
The third rotation found the Spartans on beam with a 48.275. Unpingco led the team with a 9.825, then Alisa Bogdan at 9.675, Herr at 9.650, Allison Bellingham at 9.625, Kaschak at 9.500, and Amy Bellingham at 8.850.
The floor team wrapped up the meet with best Spartan score of the day at 49.075, the best score of the season. Josalyn Ray and Herr each scored a season-best 9.850 to lead San José State. Shepard and Bogdan each scored a 9.800, followed by Ellie Pascoe-Long at 9.775 and Matos at 9.750.
San José State scored the 22nd-best score in school history with the 194.925, and the only team to ever accomplish that score. The team has one more meet before the MPSF Championships, competing this Friday at Boise State with Southern Utah. The championships will then be contested on Saturday, March 19, at Sacramento State beginning at 6 p.m.
