Final Stats

Santee, Calif. â€" The San Jose State softball team spotted the Seattle U Redhawks a 6-2 lead then roared back with 10 runs to win its final game in the San Diego Classic II on Sunday afternoon

Each team scored two runs in its half of the second inning.

For the Spartans (11-17), Taylor Purdy (0-for-2, R, RBI) reached on a error and Kristen Heffley was awarded first base on catcher's interference. Emma Entzminger then singled up the middle to drive in SJSU's first run. Two batters later Heffley scored from third on a wild pitch and the game was tied 2-2.

With one out in the top of the fourth, Seattle (10-15) strung together five straight singles and scored three run off starter Chantelle Ladner. That spelled the end of the day for Ladner.

Collette Riggs was brought in to staunch the bleeding, but surrendered a single to the first batter she faced which scored the fourth run of the frame and sixth run of the game for the Redhawks. Riggs then induced a flyout and Allysa Avilla threw out a would-be base stealer to end the inning with the Spartans down 6-2.

Through the first three innings SJSU had just one hit, but in the bottom of the fourth the bats awoke.

With two outs, and Entzminger (2-for-2 R, 3RBI) and Heffley on, Avila ripped a double into left center scoring two. Chelsea Jenner (2-for-3, 2R, RBI) then doubled to left plating Avila. Brittany Abacherli followed Jenner with a double of her own and the Spartans had tied the game 6-6.

The Redhawks got a leadoff walk in the fifth but Riggs left her stranded and SJSU got right back to business.

Alyssa Martinez (2-for-4, 2R, RBI) led off with a single. After two outs and a Heffley walk, San Jose State had runners on the corner. Entzminger took a 2-2 pitch and drove it to left center, scoring both Martinez and Heffley and giving the Spartans their first lead of the game, 8-6.

In the sixth SJSU put the game away. Jenner doubled, Casey Watt walked and Martinez drove in the first of four runs in the inning with a single. Jessie Hufstetler then tripled to the right center gap, plating both Watt and Martinez and Purdy's sacrifice fly scored the fourth run of the inning and 12th run of the game.

Riggs set the Redhawks down in order in the seventh for the team's third win of the weekend and fifth of the week. Riggs improves to 2-2 after tossing 3.2 innings of two hits shutout relief.

In the final three innings, San Jose State banged out eight hits, including five extra base hits, and scored 10 runs.
