Final Stats vs Cal State Fullerton
Fullerton, Calif. - The San José State University softball team lost a pair of games on day one of the Judi Garman Classic, hosted by Cal State Fullerton, on Thursday.
The Spartans have now lost their last five games and been held under three runs in each of those losses.
No.18/14 Missouri 8, San José State 3
The San José State University softball team (5-12) gave up five runs in the top of the first inning to #18/14 Missouri Tigers (10-3) and fell 8-3.
Despite the loss, the Spartans out hit the Tigers 14 to 7. Jessica Madrid led the team with four hits while four others had two hits each: Brittany Abacherli, Jessie Hufstetler, Aiyssa Martinez and Alexandra Luna.
Spartan starter Chantelle Ladner (3-5) lasted only an inning giving up four hits, two walks and five runs to take the loss. The Tigers also stole three bases in the first to pressure the Spartans.
San José State had a chance to get back into the game in the bottom of the first. Three of the first four Spartan hitters, Abacherli, Hufstetler and Madrid, had singles to load the bases before Madison Aurin grounded into a double play to end the threat.
Emily Rogers came in for Ladner in the top of the second and pitched four scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and three walks.
Madrid got the Spartans onboard with a third-inning double to drive in Casey Watt. It was one of Madrid's four hits on the day as she upped her season average to .431
The Spartans had another bases loaded opportunity in the fifth, this time with two outs, but Aurin grounded out to end the inning.
The score remained 5-1 until the Tigers scored three runs off of Katelyn Linford in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Spartans scored one run each in the sixth and seventh innings to put the final score at 8-3.

Cal State Fullerton 6, San José State 3
In the second game of the day, San José State (5-13) fell behind early again to host, Cal State Fullerton (11-6) which they could not overcome. The Spartans gave up two unearned runs in the second and four runs in the fourth before scoring a run of their own, en route to losing 6-3.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Titans were helped by two Spartan errors in the infield, as pitcher Katelyn Linford (0-5) was tagged for two unearned runs.
Cal State Fullerton added to their lead in the fourth inning scoring four runs off of four hits to go up 6-0.
The Spartan bats were kept quiet by Titans pitcher Sydney Golden (6-1) who only allowed four hits and no runs through the first five innings.
Jessie Hufstetler (3-for-4, run, RBI) doubled to open the top of the sixth before being driven in by Anissa Pinedo (1-for-3, RBI) for the Spartans' first run of the game.
Two more runs were added by San José State in the top of the 7th by Hufstetler's double and a fielding error by Cal State Fullerton for the final score of the game of 6-3.
Both starting pitchers, Linford and Golden went the distance to pitch complete games to cap the final game of day one of the Judi Garman Classic.
The Spartans will play two games on Friday, March 4 against Baylor at 12:30 p.m. and Long Beach State at 7:30 p.m.
