Round One Results

Fairfax, Calif.-- Regan De Guzman shot a one-under 71, and teammate My Leander shot an even-par 72 to lead the San José State women's golf team in the first round of the Bay Area Intercollegiate at the Meadow Club in Fairfax.

The Spartans sit in third place, just two shots out of first place after shooting a 297. Oregon State leads the tournament with a 295, followed by Colorado at 296. Nine teams are within the leader after 18 holes.

Weather delays plagued the start of the tournament and changed play from 36 holes to just 18 on Monday. The teams will play 18 holes on Tuesday, with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

De Guzman is tied for third place with her 71, just a shot behind leaders Alexis Keating of Colorado and Erin Harper of Indiana. De Guzman played the front nine in two-over 37 with her only birdie coming on the par-four ninth. She was three under over her final nine holes with birdies on #13, #16 and #17 and six pars.

Leander is tied for sixth with three others at even-par 72. She started her by going one-under through the first eight holes with three birdies on #2, #4 and #7. Leander then made 10 consecutive pars before a bogey on #18 ended her day at even par.

Elizabeth Schultz shot a four-over 76, and is tied for 25th. Starting her round on hole two, she was six over after her first six holes played. However, over her final 12 holes, she made 10 pars and birdies on #11 and #17.

This tournament marks the debut of freshman Abegail Arevalo who joined the team this spring. She shot a six-over 78, and is tied for 39th after making four birdies during her round. She comes to San José State from Manila, Philippines. Arevalo tied for 16th at the IMG Academy Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines this past summer.

Fanny Johansson rounded out the Spartan scoring with an 84 and is 66th after the first round.
