Las Vegas, Nev. --- The #4-seed San José State women's basketball team was unable to overcome a sluggish start and fell to #5-seed New Mexico in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain West Championship at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Spartans (13-17, 11-7 MW) matched a season-low 20 points in the first half, and was held to just nine points in the opening period. But the Lobos stepped on the gas from there, extending their lead to as many as 19 with Shumpert's jumper which made it 45-26 at the 4:35 mark in the third quarter.Shumpert finished with a game-high 24 points for New Mexico (17-13, 9-9 MW). The Lobos shot 43.9 percent (25-57) from the field for the game. The Spartans ended at 29.8 percent (17-57) shooting from the floor. Dezz Ramos, with 16 points, led the Spartans in scoring for the 20th time this season. Nyre Harris and Paris Baird each scored seven points.Ramos' 16 points rests her total for the year at 526, good for seventh on SJSU's single-season scoring list.
