Hoppius Visits Home To Compete With U-20 German National Team

April 16, 2016

For the second time this offseason, a San José State Spartan women's soccer player has accepted and invitation to a junior national training camp. Junior-to-be Dorthe Hoppius begins the journey Sunday to her native country Germany, to compete among the nation's best in the U-20 Team camp.Hoppius, a forward who scored eight goals in 2015 and was an All-Mountain West selection for the league champion Spartans, will spend the week in Bitburg, Germany sharpening her skill set."To have this opportunity is very nice," Hoppius said. "I'm a little bit nervous, but I have everything to win and nothing to lose with this opportunity. It will be a pleasure to play wearing my country's colors. I expect competitive situations with a lot of pressure at the camp. I will be a better player when I return."An improved Hoppius would make an already potent SJSU scoring tandem with Darriell Franklin even more threatening in 2016. Franklin spent a week at the U-19 United States Team training camp in Florida back in January. With 10 career goals, Hoppius will be the leading career goal scorer when San José State begins its Mountain West title defense next fall.
