Bakersfield, Calif. --- Senior Rae Lekness, junior Donia Momen and freshman Carla Toha Vilanova each scored four goals to lead the #11-San Jose State Spartans women's water polo team to a 14-7 win over the #23 CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners.

"We had a good balanced attack today. We won all four quarters. And we had good scoring from our players," said San Jose State Head Coach Johnny Bega. "I'm really proud of them."

The Spartans' (17-13, 1-5 MPSF) victory over the Roadrunners (13-18, 0-5 MPSF) gives San Jose State its first win in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season. San Jose State held a 6-2 lead over CSU Bakersfield at halftime.

"We're looking good for the MPSF conference championship and ready to go," Bega said. "The convincing win we had lifts us up and give us confidence."

Lekness' moved pass Pacific's Molly Smith's 286 goals during the 1997-2000 seasons into second place all-time in MPSF scoring. With 288 goals in her career, Lekness is three goals away from all-time leader Monica Vavic of USC's 291 scored during the 2012 through 2015 seasons.

Leading the MPSF with 88 goals this season, Lekness scored to open the second and closed out the quarter with a 6-on-5 power play goal and grabbed a goal in the third and fourth.

Toha Vilanova scored a goal in each of the four quarters, including a penalty shot in the third and a power-play goal to early in the fourth. Momen scored on shots in the first and third and picked up two goals in the closing minutes of the match.

Senior Kelli Leabo capitalized on a power-play opportunity with 2:12 left in the first giving the Spartans a 3-1 lead and sophomore McKenna Yates found the back of the cage with a power-play shot with a 1:13 left in the final quarter.

Sophomore Tayler Peters and freshman Alicia Magliocco split time in the Spartans cage. Peters played the first half, collecting three saves, while Magliocco made two saves in the second half.

San Jose State will return to action at the MPSF Championships in Bakersfield on April 29 at Hillman Aquatic Center.
