Jennifer Sandoval Signs National Letter-of-Intent

April 21, 2016

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Jennifer Sandoval from Summit High School in Fontana, Calif., who finished fourth at the 2015 California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) Girls Division I Cross Country Championships, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State women's cross country and track and field teams beginning in the 2016-17 season. Spartans cross country coach Brad Wick made the announcement on Thursday.

"We are very excited to have Jenny be a part of our program. In the future Jenny can be a special athlete for San José State and become a very accomplished Division I runner. She will be a great fit with the leaders on the team and will make an immediate impact on our squad this coming fall," said Wick.

Sandoval was the 2015 Sunkist League girls cross country champion as a senior. Her
winning time of 17:38.6 was more than two and a half minutes faster than the second place finisher and would have placed her in 12th place (out of 40) in the boys' varsity race at the same meet.

She also placed first at the October 7 and October 21 Sunkist League meets and had six more top-10 finishes last fall. Her fourth-place time at the C.I.F. Cross Country Championships was 17:32.8 for 5,000 meters.

As a junior, Sandoval placed first at the 2.93 mile Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational (18:23.7 time) and the 3 mile Woodbridge Cross Country Classic (17:45.08 time).

On the track, Sandoval competes in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter events. She clocked a personal-record 10:39.46 in the 3200 at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays on April 15.

As a junior, she advanced to the 3200 meter finals of the 2015 C.I.F. South Section Masters Meet and ran a PR in the South Section 1600 finals.
