Women's Gymnastics Signs Strong Gymnast For 2017

San Jose, Calif.—Karli Houghton, a Level 10 gymnast from Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the San Jose State women's gymnastics program beginning with the 2016-17 school year, as announced by Spartan head coach Wayne Wright.

Houghton trains at Wildfire Gymnastics in Lake Forest, Calif. She tied for seventh on the beam at the Region 1 Championships earlier this month and was seventh on the bars at the 2016 SoCal Level 10 State Championships. During the 2016 season, she was the beam champion at the Cancun Classic with a 9.7 and tied for second on bars at the Chris Waller's Heart of a Champion meet. In 2015, Houghton was second on the bars and floor at the Gliders Invitational. She won the bars and all-around at the 2014 Gymnastics Legend meet and was second on vault and floor and third on bars at the 2014 SoCal State Championship.

Houghton joins Taylor Chan of Coquitlam, British Columbia, and Madison Loomis from Hemet, Calif., as the Spartan signing class for 2017.
