SAN JOSE, Calif. - Will Barnett, the 2016 Western State Conference Men's Golfer of the Year for the College of the Canyons, signed a National Letter-of-Intent (NLI) to compete for San José State men's golf beginning in the 2016-17 academic year. Spartan men's golf coach John Kennaday made the announcement.
"Will's a great kid. He spreads our depth considerably on the team. I believe he's ready to make the next step to Division I and be more than a competent D-I player," said Kennaday.
An Australian native, Barrett is coming to San José State as a sophomore with three seasons of athletics eligibility remaining.
In 2016, he has three tournament wins. The lefty nearly added a fourth win when he finished runner-up at the Western State Conference Championship (72-75-147), one shot behind the winner, and led his team to a seventh consecutive conference title.
Currently, Barnett leads the conference with a 73.67 stroke average over 12 rounds.
Barnett joins Bryce Wortman (Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Sean Talmadge (Hillsborough, Calif.) in the group of NLI signees for the 2016-17 season.
