Fort Collins, Colo.----- Marie Klocker, a junior from Mulhouse, France, became the most honored women's tennis player in San Jose State University history with her third first-team All-Mountain West selection as a singles player and third first-team all-conference award in doubles in an announcement by the Mountain West prior to the 2016 conference championship.
Klocker and teammate Sybille Gauvain earned first-team All-Mountain West honors as singles players and together as a doubles pair.
Playing primarily in the #2-singles position, Klocker leads the team in overall singles wins with a 24-8 win-loss record. In dual match action this spring, she is 13-3 prior to the Spartans' Mountain West Championship quarterfinal round match vs. Boise State on April 29 in Greeley, Colo., at 9:00 a.m. (MT).
Klocker joins Rochelle Morrison, who played for San Jose State in the 1980's, as a Spartan with three first-team all-conference singles honors. Her six all-conference awards are one more than former Spartan Ashley Tavita, who earned five All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) honors in her career. Klocker also became the eighth San Jose State player to reach the 100-career win mark and stands in sixth place with 108 victories.
Gauvain, San Jose State's #1-singles player, has 38 individual wins. Nineteen are in singles action and the remainder in doubles. The sophomore from Frejus, France notched her second All-Mountain West first-team singles award.
Even though, they began playing as a doubles team on April 3 at San Diego State, Klocker and Gauvain were named a first-team All-Mountain West in doubles competition. Klocker and Gauvain are 4-0 and ranked nationally at #51 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
"(These honors are) well deserved for Marie and Sybille. They have both had some good results in singles and currently they are both playing with a lot of confidence in doubles," says San Jose State University women's tennis head coach Chad Skorupka.
The Mountain West Championship single-elimination tournament concludes Sunday, May 1.
