Napa, Calif.--The San José State women's golf team shot a 305 in the first round of the Silverado Showdown Sunday at the Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa. The team ended the day in 14th place and is just five shots out of seventh place.
All five Spartan players are within three shots of each other. My Leander led the Spartans with a 75 and is tied for 36th. She made birdies on #12 and #18 and recorded 11 pars during her round.
Alexandra Cooper is tied for 46th at 76. She started her round with a birdie on #10 and made another on #15 and was just one over before playing her final nine holes (#1-9). Cooper finished with the two birdies and 10 pars made on the day.
Regan De Guzman and Abegail Arevalo are tied for 60th at 77. De Guzman made just one birdie during her round (#7) along with 11 pars. Arevalo made three birdies over her final nine holes (#2, #3, #9) and eight pars.
Elizabeth Schultz rounded out the Spartan scoring with a 78, and is tied for 65th. Her only birdie made came at #5, and she started her round by making pars on nine of her first 11 holes.
San José State is 14th at 305, two shots ahead of fellow Mountain West team San Diego State and three shots behind New Mexico who is tied for ninth at 301. Stanford leads the tournament after shooting a two-under 286.
Second round action begins at 7:45 a.m. Monday. The Spartans begin the round on hole #10 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
