Clarke & Webb Are Student-Athletes Of The Month For March

April 8, 2016

Freshman forward for men's basketball, Brandon Clarke, and sophomore sprinter Makayla Webb, are the March Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month presented by ScholarShare.

Clarke notched his fifth double-double during conference play with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Spartans' 68-63 win over Boise State in the regular season finale. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was voted the Mountain West's Sixth Man of the Year by the league's coaches, making him the first freshman to win the award since its inception in 2008. He became San José State's first-ever men's basketball player to receive such designation. Clarke moved into seventh place on the SJSU single-season blocks list, with 39, and he is the only freshman to crack the top-10.

Webb clocked a 59.53 in the 400-hurdles at the Hornet Invitational, setting a new San José state record and marking the Mountain West's fastest time to date. A 13.51 in the 100-hurdles at the same meet, is an all-conditions school record. Both times ranked inside the NCAA Division I West Region's top-five. The Sacramento, Calif., native was named the Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week for March 14-20. She ran the third leg of SJSU's victorious 4x100-meter relay team at the CenCal Twilight, lifting the Spartans over CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly and Mountain West foe Fresno State in dual meet scoring.
