After a full week of final preparations the San José State University women's track & field team is off to the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 11-14, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif."For the first time in our program's short history, we have a group of experienced athletes competing at the Mountain West Championships," said SJSU head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "Our freshmen are now sophomores and the few upperclassmen that we have are battle-tested and poised to compete well."Heading into the championship, three different Spartans are ranked inside the league's top five in an event. Jennifer Beckingham ranks third in the 800 meters (2:08.23, Hornet Invitational, 3/18) and fourth in the 1500 (4:18.32, Stanford Invitational, 4/1). Makayla Webb's 59.53 in the 400-hurdles and 13.51 in the 100-hurdles are ranked third and fourth respectively. She ran both times at the Hornet Invitational (3/18).Nicole Iloanya recorded a season-best 12.86 meters at the Bulldog Invitational (4/23), a distance which ranks third in the MW.The Spartans begin the championship Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., when Kolbi Sims competes in the first four events of the women's heptathlon. The hep concludes the following day, and both track and field events begin on Friday, May 13.Real-time scoring and results, along with post-race interviews, event highlights and photo galleries for the entirety of the championship are available on the MW Championship Central page of TheMW.com. The Mountain West Network will broadcast Thursday, Friday and Saturday's track action live and free of charge.San José State intends to continue ascending at the MW Championships like it did last season. Two year's ago the program came home with zero points, but followed up in the 2015 championship with 33 points.
