Men's Distance Runners To Compete At West Coast Last Chance Meet

SAN JOSE, Calif. â€" Five San José State men's distance runners will compete at the West Coast Last Chance meet on Saturday, May 14 as they look to post qualifying marks for the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships.

Hosted by the University of San Francisco, the meet will take place at San Francisco State University's Cox Stadium. Ben Branagh and Huruy Zeratsion will be competing in the 1,500-meter race with the start time tentatively scheduled for 11:35 a.m. PT.

Branagh will be running his second 1,500m race this spring as he ran a personal record 3:51.83 at the Hornet Invitational back on March 19.

For Zeratsion, this will be his third 1,500m this spring. In his last 1,500m race, at the Bulldog Invitational on April 23, he posted a personal record 4:02.97.

Three Spartans will be competing in the 5,000m, which is tentatively scheduled to start at 1:55 p.m. PT. Josue Gonzalez will be making his spring season debut as Jose Piña and Raul Rodarte will be making their second and third starts in the 5,000m distance. Piña ran a 14:38.16 at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival back on April 1 and Rodarte ran a 15:12.19 at the same meet.

"Most of the guys have had their best training the last couple of weeks and are ready to run their best races of the season," said Spartans cross country coach Brad Wick.
