Jose Piña Finishes Third In The 5000m At The West Coast Last Chance Meet

SAN FRANCISCO
- San José State men's distance runner Jose Piña capped off his freshman season finishing third in the 5000 meters at the West Coast Last Chance Meet on Saturday. Piña finished with a time of 14:31.71, beating his previous personal best by over six seconds.

Out of 43 runners who finished the race, Piña was the second collegian to cross the finish line and first among freshmen. The third overall finish was the best finish by a Spartan during the spring season.

Sophomore Huruy Zeratsion also had a strong finish to his season, setting a personal record in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:57.91 to finish 22nd out of 43 runners. Zeratsion set his previous record only three weeks ago at the Bulldog Invitational in 4:02.97.
Redshirt sophomore Ben Branagh ran a 4:03.01 in the 1500m to finish 30th.
