Linford Earns Final MW Pitcher Of The Week Honor For 2016

May 17, 2016

San Jose, Calif. - San José State pitcher Katelyn Linford is the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played from May 9 through 15. The conference office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

In the Spartans three-game sweep of New Mexico to wrap up the 2016 regular season, Linford went 2-0, throwing 11.1 innings, striking out 17, scattering seven hits, giving up just one run. She posted a 0.62 ERA and batters hit just .167 against her.

In game one of the series, Linford struck out a career-high 12 batters en route to a complete-game 4-1 win. She struck out at least one batter in six of the seven innings she worked, fanned two batters in five innings and struck out the side in one. Linford scattered five hits in the victory, which ensured the Spartans of a winning record for the fifth straight season.

In the final game of the weekend, Linford entered with the score 3-3, the bases loaded and two outs in the third inning. She struck out the first batter she faced to end the threat and then tossed four more innings of two-hit ball striking out a total of five to earn her second win of the weekend. It was her 10th victory of the season, a personal high.

With Linford's award this week, SJSU athletes have been recognized six times as the Mountain West Player or Pitcher of the Week award this season, the most of any school in the league. This is her second Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor for 2016 having also won it on April 26.
