Woodland, Calif.----- San Jose State University's top-two women's water polo scorers Rae Lekness and Carla Toha Vilanova were named to the All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) team in a vote of the conference's seven coaches.
Lekness, the MPSF's top scorer in 2016 and the new career scoring leader for the conference, was a first-team selection.
Toha Vilanova, the MPSF's number-one freshman scorer, was an honorable mention choice and one of seven named to the conference's All-Newcomer Team.
"This is very exciting news. It speaks well for our program. It shows the strength of our team and the program," San Jose State head coach Johnny Bega said after the announcement from the conference office.
For Lekness, she was named a first-team All-MPSF player for the first time after earning second-team honors as a freshman and a sophomore. She finished her career with 294 career goals, three more than previous MSPF career scoring leader Monica Vavic of the University of Southern California and 49 more than former Spartan career record holder Adriana Vogt who had 245. Lekness' 98 goals this season are a San Jose State single-season record and presently are 42 goals more than the next highest goal scorer Carla Carrega of Cal.
Toha Vilanova topped all MPSF freshman players in scoring with 53 and was the only conference freshman to reach the 50-goal plateau in 2016 prior to the NCAA Championships. Presently, she is tied for sixth in the MPSF in goals scored per match at 1.61.
