SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's women's tennis team signed a pair of student-athletes, Tamara Culibrk and Diane Flament, to National Letters-Of-Intent to join the program for the 2016-17 season, as announced by head coach Chad Skorupka.
"I am very excited that Diane and Tamara will be joining the Spartans this fall," Skorupka said. "Both players will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact on and off the court here at SJSU. I want these players to push everyone on the team, and they will add much-needed depth in singles and doubles next season."
Culibrk, a Tampa, Fla., native and current Laurel, Md. resident, was ranked No. 22 in Serbia in 2015 and reached the semifinals of the Serbian National Indoor Championship. She ranked in the top-80 in juniors in the U.S. and won the Girls 14 Doubles National Open in Maryland and the Girls 16 Inter-Regional Championship in New Jersey. Culibrk has international tournament experience in Croatia, Serbia, Austria, and the U.S.
"Tamara is a strong left-handed player that has a big serve and great hands at the net. She is planning on majoring in civil engineering," Skorupka said.
Flament was born in Versailles, France, and currently attends The National Centre for Distance Education (CNED) in Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, France, and trains at the ISP/Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Nice, France. She won Châtillon tournament in July 2015 and the Mennecy tournament in November 2015. Flament was also a semifinalist at the Grasse tournament in March 2016 and Antibes tournament in April 2016.
"Diane is a very quick all around player," Skorupka said. "She has been training hard at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy this past year and has really improved her French Tennis ranking. Diane is planning on majoring in business."
Culibrk and Flament join a San José State program that is losing just one player - graduating senior Justine Deleval - after winning 12 matches and advancing to the Mountain West semifinals.
