Tempe, Ariz.----- For the first time, a San Jose State University women's tennis doubles pair is nationally ranked in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
Sophomore Sybille Gauvain and junior Marie Klocker, both from France, are ranked 89th as a doubles tandem.
"Congrats to Sybille and Marie for being the first SJSU to finish a year nationally ranked in doubles," said San Jose State women's tennis coach Chad Skorupka.
Gauvain and Klocker were paired together for the final month of the season as the Spartans' top doubles combo. They had a 4-1 win-loss record in 2016 and posted victories over nationally-ranked doubles teams on consecutive days. Gauvain and Klocker defeated then-#24-ranked Fresno State sisters Mayar and Rana Sharif Ahmed on April 15. The next day, the Spartan pair topped Nevada's Sheila Hidalgo and Biaga Delic, then ranked #75.
"They are looking forward to this fall to improve on their ranking and getting the team to the NCAA team tournament," the Spartans coach added about Gauvain and Klocker who were named as a 2016 All-Mountain West doubles pair in a vote of the conference's head coaches.
