SAN JOSE, Calif. – Camilla Hanson, who helped Clovis North High School win back-to-back California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) Central Section Division I cross country championships, signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State women's cross country and track and field teams beginning in the 2016-17 academic year. Spartans cross country coach Brad Wick made the announcement.
"We are excited to have Camilla join the team. She has the right attitude and work ethic to become very successful as a college runner. She will fit in very well and be an important piece to what we are trying to accomplish," said Wick.
At the last two 5,000m C.I.F. Central Section Division I cross country championships in Fresno, Calif., Hanson finished 10th both times with times of 19:05 and 18:48 to help Clovis North High win back-to-back championships.
Hanson's performance last year earned her a place on Fresno Bee's Girls Cross Country Sweet 16 team.
The Fresno, Calif., native competed in four C.I.F. Division I state cross country championships during her high school career and scored in three of them, helping Clovis North finish 15th in 2012, fourth in 2014 and sixth in 2015.
Hanson's best finish at the C.I.F. Division I state championship was 74th, in 2014.
On the track, Hanson competes in the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200-meter events. She competed the most in the 1600-meter, running 10 races her senior year with a personal record 5:09.35 at the 2015 Central Valley Classic to finish first.
