June 3, 2016 Senior women's water polo player and baseball's freshman catcher Brendt Citta are the May Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by ScholarShare.Citta got out to a hot start in May, hitting safely in the first seven games of the month. He ended up batting .356 (16-45) in 13 starts during the season's final month. He notched a club-best 10 RBI, scored five runs and belted five doubles. The freshman blasted his first-career home run, a game-tying two-run shot, against Grand Canyon on May 3.Lekness scored a San José State single-season record 98 goals to lead the MPSF and finished her career with 294 goals in four seasons. She surpassed the MPSF career mark of 291 by University of Southern California's Monica Vavic in the final match of season. The senior scored three goals in the match against Arizona State to break the record. She became the first MPSF player to finish in the top-five in conference scoring every season from her freshman year in 2013 through her senior campaign in 2016.
