San Jose State University will host Portland State University on September 10 and the University of Hawaii on October 8 in a pair of 1:30 p.m. football games in Spartan Stadium. Today's announcement completes the Spartans' regular-season football schedule of dates and game times.
The Portland State game is the Spartans' home opener and is designated as the Hall of Fame weekend. San Jose State University will be inducting its 2016 class of Spartan greats into the 350-plus member Hall of Fame. The Spartans also are facing Portland State for the first time. The Vikings posted a 9-3 win-loss record and advanced to the second round of the 2015 NCAA Football Championship Subdivision championship.
The Hawaii contest on October 8 will be the second Mountain West game for both teams. Oceanic Time Warner Cable will televise the game live in Hawaii on a pay per view basis.
This year's game is San Jose State's Homecoming Game and coincides with the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The 1941 Spartan team was in Honolulu on December 7 in preparation for games against the University of Hawaii on December 13 and Williamette College on December 16. Both games were cancelled with the country at war. San Jose State football players either enlisted in the Navy or joined the Honolulu police force in the early days of World War II.
