Las Vegas, Nev.----- With 17 returning starters, San Jose State University's football team is picked by Mountain West media members to finish third in the conference's West Division this season.
The Spartans received 122 votes from the 29 media members that submitted ballots for the preseason poll. San Diego State, the 2015 West Division champion, was a unanimous selection to repeat. Nevada edged San Jose State for second, 129 to 122. Fresno State, UNLV and Hawaii rounded out the order of finish.
Boise State was picked as the preseason favorite in the Mountain Division. The Broncos received 27 of the 29 votes. Air Force, the Spartans' final home opponent in 2016, received the other two first-place votes.
San Jose State travels to San Diego State for a Friday, October 21 contest, Boise State for a Friday, November 4 encounter and hosts Air Force, Saturday, November 19.
The Spartans begin preseason practice, Friday, August 5 and have their season opener, Saturday, September 3 at Tulsa.
