Honolulu, Hawaii----- San Jose State University linebacker Christian Tago is one of 38 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players named to the 2016 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List.
A senior, Tago was a second-team All-Mountain West selection in 2015. He led the Spartans in tackles with 125. He was 21st nationally in total tackles averaging 9.6 tackles per game.
The 2016 season marks the second consecutive year the San Jose State linebacker is on the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List.
Tago enters the season tenth on the Spartans' career list for total tackles with 311. His 9.15 tackles per game ranks third among active FBS players.
Five finalists for this year's award will be announced on November 17. The winner will be named on December 7 and be presented on January 20, 2017 in conjunction with Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend in Honolulu.
Former San Jose State football coach Dick Tomey serves as committee chair. Former San Jose State football players and college head coaches Ron McBride (Utah, Weber State) and Dick Vermeil (UCLA) are on the selection committee.
